100th Wärtsilä Auxpac 20 generating set produced in China
Wärtsilä Qiyao Diesel Company (WQDC)
plans to ramp up production to 250–300 Auxpac 20 generating sets per
year.
Wärtsilä Qiyao Diesel Company, the joint venture company set up by
Wärtsilä Corporation and the Shanghai Marine Diesel Engine Research
Institute (SMDERI) in 2005, has tested and delivered its 100th Wärtsilä
Auxpac 20 generating set.
The milestone is remarkable because the first Wärtsilä Auxpac 20
generating set was rolled out of the Shanghai-based factory only eleven
months ago, in January 2007. It is also indicative of the success of
the Wärtsilä Auxpac concept in the Chinese market as the first-ever
Wärtsilä Auxpac 20 was delivered to Chinese shipyards in April 2005.
“It is certainly a significant achievement,” says Esa Kivineva,
Managing Director, Wärtsilä Qiyao Diesel Company. “For WQDC to reach
its 100th generating set during the first year of operation is a clear
indication we are on the right track and have developed a product that
meets the market requirement.”
After continued investment in the plant, WQDC expects to ramp up
production to between 250 and 300 Wärtsilä Auxpac 20 generating sets
per year. “Based on our first year, we believe that we can exceed 300
units each year,” says Kivineva. “We are successfully operating
according to our plan,” he adds.
The 100th generating set engine currently delivered from the factory in
Shanghai’s Lingang Industry Zone is one of three Wärtsilä Auxpac 20
generating sets bound for a 9000dwt chemical tanker under construction
at China’s Zhejiang Dongfang shipyard.
The new factory manufactures Wärtsilä Auxpac 20 and 26 diesel
generating sets for the growing shipbuilding market in China and also
exports them to other countries through Wärtsilä’s global sales network.
However, the first year of operation has concentrated on the Wärtsilä
Auxpac 20 design and production of Auxpac 26 is set to increase
throughout 2008.
Wärtsilä Auxpac marine generating sets are supplied as pre-engineered
packages for the generation of electrical power on board all types and
sizes of ships. The units arrive at the shipyards ready for
installation and outfitted with all necessary ancillary equipment such
as pumps, electrical and control systems
Based on the well-proven Wärtsilä 20 and Wärtsilä 26 engines,
electrical outputs of Auxpac sets cover a range from 500kWe to 2850kWe,
with typical installations being general cargo vessels, container
ships, product tankers, bulk carriers and VLCCs.
