Fortum and TVO to provide expert services for Poland’s nuclear power program

    Fortum-4390 2

    FORTUM CORPORATION PRESS RELEASE 13.02.2024

Fortum together with TVO Nuclear Services have signed a two-year service framework agreement with the Polish Polskie Elektrownie Jądrowe (PEJ), a state-owned company responsible for the construction project of the first nuclear power plant in Poland.

The scope of the framework is to support PEJ in the development of operation and maintenance processes of the new nuclear power plant. Fortum’s Nuclear Services and TVO Nuclear Services will provide technical support e.g. for the licensing and design phase of the plant and help PEJ to develop its own internal capabilities to become an operator of a nuclear power plant.

“Both Fortum and TVO have unique nuclear owner and operator experience and competencies spanning over many decades, which differentiates us from many of the other service providers. We are happy that we are together able to contribute to Poland’s energy transition with our strong competences,“ says Anni Jaarinen, Vice President, Nuclear Services at Fortum.

“We highly value the opportunity to support the customer and utilise our long-term expertise with new built projects as well as nuclear power plant operation and asset life- cycle management, most recently the Olkiluoto 3 project (PWR, 1600 MW)," says Ari Leppänen, Managing Director of TVO Nuclear Services.

PEJ is responsible for the preparation of the investment process for the construction of the first Polish nuclear power plant with a capacity of up to 3,750 MW. Based on the Polish Nuclear Power Program the development of nuclear power is one of the pillars of Poland’s energy transition, which involves construction of safe and modern Generation III(+) pressurized water reactors (PWR).

Fortum’s Nuclear Services has more than 40 years of experience in designing, licensing and operating nuclear facilities and supplying related services and technologies. Our expertise covers the whole life-cycle of nuclear power plants from new builds to decommissioning and final disposal of nuclear waste.

TVO Nuclear Services provides consultation and advisory services for nuclear industry.
Services include e.g. new build projects (NPP, SMR), performance improvement, asset life-cycle management and nuclear safety.
