Fortum’s Sustainability Report 2011 wins the Corporate Responsibility Reporting competition
Espoo, Finland, 2012-11-08 16:00 CET (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Press release 8
November 2012
Fortum’s Sustainability Report 2011 has been chosen as the best in Finland in
this year’s Corporate Responsibility Reporting competition. The report was also
the media favourite in the Reader’s choice category.
According to the jury, the structure of Fortum’s report is clear and reader
friendly. The report was also praised for its goal-oriented, innovative and
strategic approach. Special accolades were given to its visual appeal, which
significantly adds to the readability. The jury notes that Fortum’s report
gives a thorough review of the sustainability focus areas of its operations and
its longer-term goals. The jury also praises the fact that Fortum’s report
comprehensively covers the position of different energy alternatives in the
Solar Economy as well as the global megatrends affecting the future of the
energy sector. Fortum was awarded the competition’s highest score for its
report, and thus was the winner in both the general category and the overall
category.
”Sustainability is at the core of Fortum’s strategy, and our central aim is to
report on our activities that are in line with sustainability openly, fairly
and in a way that interests all stakeholders. Scarcity of natural resources,
energy security, the impacts of different production forms and climate change
are issues that affect every one of us. For this reason, we wanted to showcase
our vision of the future energy system, the Solar Economy, in our report. The
award is recognition that the path we have chosen is the right one,” commented
Ulla Rehell, Fortum’s Vice President of Sustainability, on the report’s
objectives.
The winner was selected by the group organising the competition. The group
consisted of the Aalto University School of Business, the Confederation of
Finnish Industries (EK), Finnish Business & Society, the Finnish Institute of
Authorised Public Accountants, the Finnish Confederation of Professionals STTK,
the Ministry of Employment and the Economy, the Association for Environmental
Management, and the Ministry of the Environment.
The competition assessed the corporate responsibility reports of all companies
listed on the NASDAQ OMX Helsinki as well as the reports of 19 other companies
that had entered the competition. The winner was selected from among the
finalists – those with reports that had received the most points.
