Fortum and Nissan to co-operate in domestic charging services for electric cars in Estonia
Espoo, Finland, 2012-04-05 09:00 CEST (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- PRESS RELEASE 5 April
2012
A home charging package has been created in Estonia for owners of the 100%
electric Nissan LEAF to ensure they can recharge their car as efficiently and
as safely as possible. The system has been developed in partnership with
Fortum, Nissan’s Electric Mobility Operator (EMO), and we will be introduced in
April at start of sales.
A dedicated charging point will ensure convenient, optimal and safe charging
and also provides additional capacity for battery warm-up in cold conditions.
With a 16A cable, charging takes less than eight hours, making it considerably
faster than charging with the power cable that comes with the Nissan LEAF. For
a price of 998 EUR, Fortum will inspect household's electrical installation,
make sure it complies with all safety regulations and perform the installation
of the dedicated charging point. A state subsidy of 1,000 EUR will cover the
recharging device, home delivery and installation, ultimately making the whole
package free of charge to customers.
“Fortum’s charging service for electric vehicles provides electric vehicle
owners with charge units for home and workplace to charge vehicles as
effectively and safely as possible,” says Juha Stenberg, Sales Director of
Fortum’s recharging services unit.
“The practical charging system is an important part of the Nissan LEAF launch
in the Estonian market. As a result, the owners of Nissan LEAF can enjoy his
independence from petrol stations with increasing fuel prices and use their own
home recharging points in the same way as public recharging stations,” says
Margus Mikk, Country Manager of Nissan Nordic Europe in the Baltics.
Nissan LEAF sales in Estonia started on the April 2, 2012. Private customers
may now apply for an incentive from government up to 18,000 EUR, making Nissan
LEAF price around 22,000 EUR and 1,000 EUR subsidy for home charging unit. In
addition, the goal of the Estonian government is to provide quick charging in
all urban areas with more than 5,000 residents. The intention is to install
quick charging stations along the main roads at 50-kilometre intervals, which
is the highest density of DC charging stations in Europe. Electric mobility
investments are funded by the Green Investment Scheme, funded by the KredEx
export credit company as part of the government plan to reduce carbon dioxide
emissions.
Electric vehicles are an important part of energy solutions in the near future
because they provide a means for restraining carbon dioxide emission caused by
traffic.
