Graz, 11 March 2014 Austria’s EFKON Group, headquartered in Raaba near Graz, is a leading provider of intelligent transportation and tolling solutions. The recently awarded contract from Austrian road operator ASFINAG for the modernisation of the national toll sticker monitoring system underscores the outstanding quality of the camera systems for the automatic enforcement and monitoring systems (Automatische Vignettenkontrolle, AVK).

ASFINAG had already ordered AVK systems from EFKON in 2010 to facilitate the fully automatic identification of toll violators on Austria’s motorways. A follow-up order for additional systems was placed in 2012. Since the deployment of the new systems and thanks to their high-precision image analysis, it has been possible to achieve an enormous increase in the recognition and enforcement rate. Automatic toll enforcement and monitoring is a mobile “electronic eye” that can change location as often as is desired for effective spot checks nationwide.

Thanks to the continual technological development of the high-resolution cameras, the newest system delivers outstanding results and high reliability – even under critical light and weather conditions and for vehicles travelling far in excess of the speed limit on Austria’s motorways. The new system is even capable of effortlessly capturing and reading the small 5 mm punched holes in the 2-month and 10-day variants of the Austrian toll sticker for passenger cars.

Thanks to the exceedingly positive reference from Austria’s toll operator, the proven and reliable AVK system is also very much in demand internationally. Deployment of mobile automatic enforcement is being considered in Lithuania, Slovenia, Slovakia and the Czech Republic, among other places.
